With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Jeanne Marie Roberts, 63, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She left this world but will never leave the hearts of those who knew her.
Jeanne was born on March 13, 1961 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Carole Long and the late James C. Roberts.
Jeanne is survived by her loving daughter, Kristin M. (Brian) Bowers; her cherished grandson, Peter J. Sopala III; her beloved mother, Carole Long; her loving stepdaughter Kristen Penna (Marvin) and grandson Tyler Guerra; stepson Danny (Danielle) Penna and grandchildren Jaden Penna, Mia Penna, and Leo Penna; brothers Nick Krentiras and Joseph Gattuso; sisters Janice Roberts and Joan (Scott) Wink; brother Michael J. (Irene) Roberts; brother-in-law Louis Penna; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Penna; her son, Peter J. Sopala II; her father, James C. Roberts; her stepfather, Dennis "Poppa" Long, her brother, Tony Krentiras; and her nephew, Jason C. Wesolek.
Jeanne was the embodiment of kindness, love, and unwavering strength. She dedicated her life to raising her family as a single mother, giving all of herself to ensure her loved ones felt supported, cherished, and deeply loved.
To know Jeanne was to know warmth. She found joy in the simple moments-like watching the grass grow, sharing laughter with family, offering a comforting embrace, and reminding those around her of the power of unconditional love. She had a passion for sports, especially football, and was a devoted Chicago Bears fan. Cheering on her team or simply enjoying the game with those she loved, her enthusiasm was contagious. She also had a deep love for horse racing, finding excitement and joy in the sport. Whether watching the races or picking her favorites, it was a pastime that brought her happiness and fun memories with those around her.
Beyond that, Jeanne felt most at peace in the water. She loved to swim in the open water, embracing the freedom and tranquility it gave her. She also had a passion for fishing, finding joy in the stillness of the water and the thrill of the catch. It brings comfort to her family to believe that she is doing exactly that in heaven right now-gliding through endless waves, free, at peace, and with a fishing line in hand.
Above all, Jeanne was an incredible Nana to her five grandchildren. She adored them endlessly, always ready with a hug, a story, or words of encouragement. Her love for them was boundless, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.
Jeanne had a strong affection for animals, especially her German Shepherds, Donte and Cholla, whom she adored. Her granddog, Yogi Berra, held a special place in her heart-she lovingly let him run her life, and he happily took on the role.
Her legacy lives on through the lessons she taught, and the love she freely gave. Though words can never truly capture her essence, those who were lucky enough to be loved by her will carry her spirit always.
A celebration of Jeanne's life will be held on June 14, 2025, with a funeral mass at St. Alexander Catholic Church, 300 S. Cornell Ave, Villa Park, IL 60181, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Rd, Hillside, IL 60162.
She was the best mom in the world, and though she is no longer with us, her love remains forever.
