Jeanne Elaine Schmidt Thompson moved on to the next life at the age of 78 on October 18th, 2025 in South Ogden, Utah. She was always serving others, compassionate and a true disciple of Jesus Christ. She was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Jeanne was born in Austin, Mower, Minnesota on May 12th, 1947 to Alice and Bernard Schmidt. She was the second of three children, with an older sister Diane and a younger brother Bob. She enjoyed family gatherings as a child where she was able to spend time with extended family members. She grew up in Austin where she graduated from high school, went to junior college and then graduated from Winona State with a Bachelor's in Education.
She was married on August 31st, 1968 to Benny Dean Thompson, Jr. and they became the parents of six daughters. Jeanne was a stay-at-home mom with her children until her divorce in 1986, when she went back to school to St. Cloud State University to update her teaching degree. She became a pre-school teacher, which she did for over 30 years.
Jeanne was baptized when she was 21 years old as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved serving and participating in family history, as a temple worker, singing in the church choir, and several leadership callings including as the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society Presidents. Jeanne had a fervent testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and went out of her way to share it with everyone she could.
Jeanne loved studying the life of Abraham Lincoln and the history of Nauvoo, Illinois and had a substantial collection of artwork, books and historical documents. Food storage was important to Jeanne and due to her compassion for others she saved up enough for herself and her neighbors. She loved making and sharing small gifts to give to her neighbors, no matter where she lived.
Education was very important to Jeanne. She was the first person in her family to go to college and emphasized the importance of it with her children, who have all completed college degrees. She also instilled the principles of hard work, faith and service to others.
Jeanne has been a wonderful example of Christ-like love, compassion and enduring faith, amidst difficult circumstances. We will miss her joyful spirit, fun-loving sense of humor and her unwavering commitment to her family and the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Bernard Schmidt, and her sister, Diane Egemo. She is survived by her brother Bob Schmidt, as well as, her daughters Debra(Ron) Call, Julie(Frank) Tousa, Tammy(Danny) Small, Patty(Darin) Thompson, Barbara Thompson, Kelly(Sam) Job, 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and her niece Becky Norman.
Funeral services for Jeanne will be held on Thursday, October 23rd, at 11am, with a viewing at 10am, located at 2175 W. 4250 S. in Roy, Utah.
