Jeannine Marie Engelson, 93, of Duluth died Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Franciscan Health Center.
She was born May 29, 1932 in Noranda, Ontario, Canada, to Andry and Helena (Kicut) Andruschak. When Jeannine was 6 months old, her mother passed away, and she was adopted by Joseph and Mary Ann (Christian) Gibeau. Jeannine grew up in Grandview, Wisconsin, attended boarding school at Stanbrook Hall (high school for girls) at the College of St. Scholastica campus. She completed her college education at St. Scholastica, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science in 1954.
She married Edward Engelson on August 24, 1957 in Grandview, Wisconsin, and together they made their home in Duluth Township, where Jeannine was employed by Duluth School District and later, Lake Superior School District.
Jeannine was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Duluth.
She enjoyed traveling, photography, sewing, gardening, books and local history, her piano, and her cats. She loved her family, and was reunited with her birth family in 1968. Jeannine volunteered many years as Editor of The Landmarks, a local publication of the Duluth Township area. She was also a member of the Clover Valley/French River Community History Committee that published The Roots book on Duluth Township area history.
Preceding her in death were her biological and adoptive parents; brothers and sisters; her husband Edward in 2021; and a grandson, Nicholas Bray.
She is survived by children, Charles (Holly Snow) Engelson, Loreen Engelson, Paul Engelson, Robert (Marcy) Engelson, Karen (Brian) Dahl; grandchildren, Brianna (Will) Engelson, Marissa (Tim) Obrecht, Andrew (Lauren) Bray, Allison Dahl, Mark (Olivia) Dahl, and Anna (Mackenzie) Engelson; great-grandchildren Auden, Landen, Remy, Layla, Calvin, and Kayli; and a brother, Thomas Andruschuk.
Memorials are preferred to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or North Shore Community School Library.
A special THANK YOU to the staff at Franciscan Health Center for the loving care they provided to Jeannine for the past 10 years, and to the Essentia Hospice Care Team for the past year.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Duluth on Saturday, November 29th, 2025. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Palmers.
