Jeffrey Louis Shaver (Shakey Shaves) August 8, 1961 – February 5, 2026
Jeffrey Louis Shaver, iconically known as “Shakey Shaves,” passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 64, of a sudden terminal illness. Born on August 8, 1961, in Long Beach, California, to Clarence and Mary Shaver, Jeff was the eldest of two children. He shared a deep, protective bond with his only sibling, Kelli Rene’ Bolicek (Shaver), whom he loved dearly throughout his life.
Jeff lived life boldly and on his own terms—always BIG. An avid water enthusiast, he delighted in water skiing, snow skiing, jet skiing, water polo, and countless trips to the Colorado River. Music was another great passion; he was a devoted fan of rock legends including AC/DC, Journey, Cheap Trick, Ozzy Osbourne, and many more. For years, he worked as a bouncer with Staff Pro, where he cherished sharing stories from the concerts he helped secure.
A true green thumb, Jeff pursued his love of horticulture by earning certificates in horticulture and botany from Long Beach City College. His backyard oasis was a source of immense pride, featuring a thriving collection of fruit trees—orange, tangerine, Asian pear, apple, and avocado—that he tended with care. Professionally, he spent many years in landscaping for the Long Beach Unified School District before transitioning to truck driving with Thomas Crane Trucking, where he worked for nine years until his medical retirement.
It was at Thomas Crane Trucking that Jeff met his soulmate, Mercy. Their first “hanging out” date began at 7:00 a.m. and stretched until around 6:00 p.m.—a day that sparked an instant connection. From that moment in January 2008, they were inseparable, seeing each other every single day. Over their 18 years together, they created cherished memories traveling to Puerto Vallarta and Laughlin, often returning to their favorite spots.
Jeff was a dedicated sports fan, following everything from NASCAR (especially driver Jimmie Johnson) to football, tennis, and golf. A lifelong resident of Long Beach, he lived in just three homes—all within seven blocks of one another—rooted deeply in the community he loved.
A 1979 graduate of Millikan High School, Jeff played on the Millikan water polo team and maintained close friendships from those days well into adulthood.
Jeff was an incredibly proud father to his son, Blake Shaver. Blake considered his dad to be the funniest person he knew. He created lasting memories with Blake through adventures like river trips, ocean boating, and camping. Blake fondly recalls two standout experiences: a Boy Scout camping trip where he was the only one with a dirt bike, and an exhilarating day tubing behind his dad’s boat in the ocean—complete with sharks circling nearby or so Blake thought.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Mercy Shaver; his son, Blake Shaver, and daughter-in-law, Melissa Shaver; his granddaughters, Wesley, Sadie, and Sunnie Shaver; his parents, Clarence and Mary Shaver; his sister, Kelli Bolicek, and brother-in-law, Bradley Bolicek; his niece, Chelsea Archer (and her husband, JD Archer); and his nephew, Cody Bolicek.
Jeff’s larger-than-life spirit, sense of humor and beautiful smile will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the stories, adventures, and joy he brought to so many lives.
