Jeffery A. Jones, 73 of Gahanna, OH passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on October 7, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer and a life devoted to service.
Jeff was born at Langley Air Force Base in Norfolk, Virginia on May 2, 1952, to the late Roy G. Jones and June E. (Small) Jones. Jeff graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1970, and The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1979 where he was a member of The Ohio State University Army ROTC.
Jeff proudly served with the Ohio Army National Guard for thirty-two years, retiring as an infantry officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Jeff joined the Westerville Division of Police in 1978 where he served for twenty-six years and retired as a Lieutenant. Jeff defined himself as a “fixer” with a mission to help people improve their lives.
Jeff is survived by his wife Dawn (Stamm) Jones of twenty-two years, and his two children Heather (Shawn Handshey) Richmond and Michael (Kiko) Jones; six grandchildren Braden and Bailey Richmond, Matthew, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Nicholas Jones; his brother Dennis (Helen) Jones, Sister Donna (Dave) Huelf; Nieces and nephew Eric (Danielle) Jones, Jessica (Nick) Zacharko, and Amanda Jones; friends, family, and beloved cats.
A service in his honor will take place Saturday October 11, at 10:00 AM at Genoa Church, 7562 Lewis Center Road, Westerville, OH 43082, officiated by dear friend, Pastor Frank Carl. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jeff’s memory to Genoa Church at genoachurch.org/give .
