I remember at the time, PFC Wiekamp, while serving with him at Ft Campbell, KY. At the time I was a Tech Inspector. I knew when I inspected Jeff's work it would be right, and it always was. I always asked him how the part he just worked on works. He usually hit on all cylinders. If he didn't know he would say, "not sure but I'll get back with ya". He always did! This guy was simply amazing. I told Wee one day he looked like my Son, because he did, and they were the same age. The resemblance was uncanny. He reminded me of my Son daily, kept to himself, quiet, and worked hard. Wee and I moved on with our careers. The day I heard of his sacrifice to our Nation I wept and I remember gritting my teeth in pain. It hit me to the core and my heart still aches to this day when I think of him. Every year on Memorial Day the one person I always think of is Jeffery Wiekamp. This is one amazing Soldier and person. His professionalism was second to none. I just retired in June of 2016 and throughout my entire career I have never met anyone who was more dedicated to his profession and life as PFC Wiekamp.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Wiekamp Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jeffery S. Wiekamp US Army Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Jeff was a good friend and a great soldier I was proud to have served with him in Fort Drum. Rest in Peace Brother

February 12, 2009

Off to a foreign land, a fight I hope to find.
This evil that I speak of, I hope will help mankind.
I have fought for some time now, trudging through the sands of eternity.
I don’t do this duty for the money, that’s not what it means to me.
No man should ever die unless he is liberated unless that man is Free.
Soldiers understand the cause and to them the cause is right. They charge into battle and they fight with all their might.
With heads held high, no fear in their eyes, they scream a battle cry. For the motivation of one man may keep a friend alive.
Once the day’s fighting is done they stand there side by side. Together they begin the weary walk through the fields of blood to find those who have died.
They carry away their friends so they may be laid to final rest. They hold a grand memorial to honor the nation’s best.
For twelve months at a time these men come to fight. All of them so willing and ready to sacrifice. Everyone of them has given up a piece of their soul and for some life is the price
For so many soldiers there really is no peace. The only rest that they get is the time between the wars.
During this time they talk amongst their friends about their experiences past. Their friends never seem to quite understand, this only hurts the soldier more.
As for the men that died at their sides they think about them every day. While everyone else congregates once a year to bow their heads and pray. The words they speak are many, the words they speak are true. The only words that really matter are “We Miss You”.
GODSPEED COLOSSAL 31

To the parents: I know you are very proud. He was an outstanding soldier, and was and will always be a very good friend. I will always miss him. He was one of the very few i could trust and count on being there when needed, for some reason he never said no when a favor or help was needed. He was the best of friends.

Wee-Wee, you will always be in my heart and i miss you a lot, but i know you are in a better place. I just wish you was her so i could tell you this in person. Thanks for everything, thanks for your friendship and thanks for being yourself. Love you and miss you.

In Memory of Jeffery ~ ( Debra Estep )

May 5, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jeffery, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I remember the last time that I saw Jeffery. It was the day before the accident. It was only in passing but we gave our usual exchange of mocking expressions towards each other. He was one of the few people that no matter my mood he could always make me smile.
The day of the accident is still vivid in my memory. I was off duty at the time. Late that evening the news had come that we lost an aircraft. We didnt know who the crew was at the time, only that they were our friends. A roecovery team was quickly assembled, so for the moment there was hope that the crew had survived. Later that evening the recovery team returned, the mission had been canceled. We all knew at that moment that we had lost some very dear friends.
Jeff I speak to you here. You were always understanding of me while you were my squad leader. When my temper flared you never yelled you only tried to calm me down. When I had my accident you were one of the only ones to stop and ask if I was doing alright, and asked if my wife and I needed any help. You truly had the heart of all hearts. Not a day goes by that I dont think of you at some point. It is men like you Sgt. that make me proud of what I do, and I promise you that we will not stop until the mission is complete.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I never had the honor to meet Jeff, but I do serve side by side with Jared. I have the honor and the privilege to call him my friend. I have read many accounts about the events that took place with this aircraft and the services that took place to honor Jeff's sacrifice. My tears flow freely in remembrance of this man, and I hope that no one I know will ever be ashamed to say the same. RIP Jeff, we have the controls.

November 21, 2006

My husband, Spc. Michael Braun, served with Jeff at Ft. Campbell. Michael always spoke so highly of Jeff, or "WeeWee" as they all called him, and when I finally got to meet him, I could see why. He was a wonderful young man with a huge heart, and a great sense of humor. We only recently learned of his untimely death. Michael has undoubtedly taken the news pretty hard, as he has lost a dear friend, and someone he greatly admired. We are so proud of "WeeWee" for his courage and service. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, as he will be sorely missed. May God bless each and every one of you!

I never met Jeff, however I do know his wife, Ashley. She was my next door neighbor and I babysat her and her brother, Adam, several times. I truly just want to send out our thoughts and prayers to Jeff's family and even more importantly for me, to his wife, Ashley. Stay strong Ashley. Jeff did what he loved and he clearly loved you and you loved him. Keep that in your mind always. Best wishes Ashley. And be proud of your husband, I know I am as well as the rest of the country.

"Wie" will always remain in my mind as a hard working kid with a torque wrench smiling from the aft pylon of a Chinook. Just as every soldier that has served under me, Jeff will always be 'one of mine.'

He loved what he did. He probably wore his devilish little grin to the very end. I would bet that because he was flying, he died a happy man.

God speed, "Wie". Good job.

I am the mother of a Fort Drum, 10th Mountain, 3rd BCT soldier on deployment in Afghanistan.

I want to offer your entire family my heartfelt prayers and condolences on the loss of Jeffery! My heart aches for the pain you are going through. Cherish and hold close the memories of Jeffery. May God grant you peace in knowing what a special man Jeffery was.

I talked to my son on Monday, and he expressed his sadness about what had happened to his “battle buddies” and wished for me to convey his condolences as well. He promises to carry on with the job that Jeffery and the others were doing.

Know that your pain is shared by many military families across this nation. We know and we care.

To the Family of Sgt. Jeffery S. Wiekamp:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
