Jeffrey Allyn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vander Plaat Funeral Home - Wyckoff on Oct. 10, 2025.
Jeffrey Frazer Allyn passed away on October 9, 2025. He remained strong until it was time to move on in valor with grace and courage, just as he lived his life of altruism.
Jeff was born on March 25, 1947 to Susan and John Allyn. He grew up in Bloomfield, NJ with his mom and dad, older sister Carol, and younger brother Greg. Never being shy about his height while growing up, he welcomed "super bed" as he called it, which was custom made to perfectly fit him, standing tall at 6'5". He graduated from Muhlenberg College with a degree in Education, and during his time there he proudly led the marching band as Drum Major playing the trombone. He would later go on to earn his Masters Degree.
He loved teaching various grades and settled into 5th grade at Travell School in Ridgewood, NJ where he was well known for his dedication and love of the profession. He then went onto a career as a social worker in Bloomfield, NJ helping countless students to achieve their best potential.
Throughout the years he wore many hats, mainly centered around service to others and giving back to people and the community. He knew how blessed he was and needed to share the goodness and graces.
Jeff chose being a volunteer fireman and first served with the Upper Saddle River Fire Department, became Fire Chief, then continuing to serve with the Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department in 1973. His dedication to the Fire Department was absolute, as he served in nearly every position within the department and company spanning his 50+ years career, eventually achieving Life Member status.
Concurrently, he devoted his life and altruism by joining the Midland Park Ambulance Corps ultimately serving as Captain among other roles. He received numerous awards and accolades, especially being most proud of his several CPR saves.
Jeff loved his '69 Corvette convertible, in his younger years making trips "down the shore" to rent a house for the summer season with his best friends. The Jersey shore remained a big part of his life, as he loved his beach house located only a few blocks from the beach, which he owned in Manasquan, NJ. His love for Corvettes continued as he restored a '70 blue Vet with a spectrum of tools in his garage to its original parts.
Out of all of his accomplishments achieved and things he loved and cherished, he was most fulfilled, grateful, and happiest being Billy's Dad. He was at his absolute finest as a father. From the first moment he held his adopted son William, Billy, in his arms on October 15, 1991 an everlasting bond was created. Billy was Jeff's world as anyone could testify to. Together, they traveled a path which included schooling, soccer, swimming, Cub Scouts onto Boy Scouts through the Eagle Award, and camping among all things a father and son do together. He held onto the deeply cherished memories of their time together lovingly and sincerely.
Jeff leaves this world cherished by his son William, sister Carol, brother Greg (wife Sandy) and niece Samantha, the Nolan family, along with his extended Allyn family cousins, spanning from New Jersey to Maine and Colorado. He is also lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Mary Allyn. He was predeceased by his parents and nephew Jimmy Riker.
We will continue to love Jeff and remember him always. Please complete an act of kindness or service to community or others less fortunate in his memory, as he would be gratefully pleased. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Midland Park Fire Department, Midland Park Ambulance Corps or the charity of your choice.
Thank you for loving Jeff.
