Jeffrey Clyde Mitchell, age 56, died following a courageous fight with cancer on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in his home in South Jordan, Utah.
Jeff was born to David and Connie Mitchell in Provo, Utah, June 29, 1969. Jeff grew up and attended school in the Miami Florida area. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Houston, Texas from 1988-1990. Afterwards he moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University. Upon arriving in Utah, Jeff quickly found his spouse and was married in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple to Kathryn Baird. Jeff and Kathryn were married for 34 years and raised three good looking kids because they don't make ugly babies.
Jeff started out working for Pepsi Co. in St. George before transferring to Elko, Nevada in 2000. While in Elko, Jeff transitioned to working for a drilling company. He worked in various manager positions for different drilling companies over the course of 21 years. Jeff was able to complete his bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2021 while working full time. Jeff believed that receiving an education was important for bettering his life and career and encouraged others to get an education as well. Church service was also important in his life. He fulfilled various callings and enjoyed attending overnighters and other church activities with his children. He loved working with the youth programs in the church. It gave him license to continue to be a big kid.
Hunting, fishing, and sports (particularly baseball) were some of Jeff's biggest passions and he enjoyed them more when he could do it with his loved ones. One of his fondest memories from his youth was being out fishing in the ocean with his grandpa on his boat. In his adult life he enjoyed spending time with his family as much as he could and did so by coaching them in various sports, attending games, meets, concerts, and other events that his children participated in. Jeff worked hard to provide for his family, and ensured that they were able to enjoy many luxuries in life. He looked forward to traveling with his family and sought to experience different eateries and local attractions.
Jeff enjoyed educating others on interesting facts, history of actors/actresses and what they are in, and classic rock. He could often be found watching old western movies and reminiscing about radio shows that he had listened to when he was younger. He will be remembered for his desire to serve those around him, his integrity, the sacrifices he made, and overall the extensive love he had for his wife, kids, and grandson.
Jeff is survived by his wife Kathryn; his children Houston, MarLee (Connor Bradley), and Kenna (Drew Gidewall); grandson Wilder Bradley; father David Mitchell; sisters (Teresa, Andrea, Dora, Sarah, Becky and their families). Jeff was preceded by his mother, grandparents, mother and father in-law.
There will be a funeral in Jeff's honor. Visitations with the family will be Friday, August 22nd 6:30-8:00pm and Saturday, August 23rd 9:30-11:00am. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00am. The services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building, 11251 South 2700 West, South Jordan, UT 84095.
