Obituary published on Legacy.com by Downs Funeral Home - Superior on Feb. 11, 2026.
Jeffery Alan Nyquist, 69, of South Range, passed away Monday February 9, 2026, at his residence.

Jeff was born in Duluth, MN on July 9, 1956, the son of Gene and Marjorie (DeMars) Nyquist. He graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1974.

Jeff had worked as a machinist for many years at Superior Lidgerwood Mundy, retiring as a Lead Man. He had designed and invented the first cleanable dough rounder divider for bakeries. He was a part of the International Aerospace and Machinist Union (IAM).

Jeff was a master of all trades. He was very technical, inventive, and enjoyed working with his hands, especially when it came to anything mechanical. He would fix anything and everything for everyone. He also enjoyed riding his skid steer, excavator, 4-wheelers and other machinery. He was known for his kindness, intelligence, and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim Severson and David Nyquist; and stepson, Benjamin Backlund.

Jeff is survived by his wife and companion of 28 years, Debra; children, Jessica Galow and Tina (Mark Lamphier) Nyquist; step-children, Kori Backlund, Christopher "Foofie" (Jason Brew) Backlund, and Katie Backlund; grandchildren, Megan, Madison, Jacob, Olivia, Ryley, Brooklyn, Reid, Brennon, and Dawson; great-grandson, Zaiden; siblings, Sandi Johnson, and Dan Nyquist; his beloved dog, Wesson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Jeff's Life will be held on Sunday, February 15th from 1:00 until 3:00p.m. at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St.
