In Loving Memory of Jeffrey W. Peele
On Monday, November 3, 2025, Jeffrey Wayne Peele went home to be with the Lord. He was born on May 25, 1962, to the late Wendell M. and Eva L. B. Peele. He was baptized at First Baptist Church of Lamberts Point, Norfolk, and educated in the Norfolk Public School System. Jeffrey was part of the 1980 graduating class of Maury High School. Shortly after graduation, Jeff entered the Army, where he completed basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He then went to different areas and eventually to Germany. That move sparked Jeffrey's desire to travel and see places he had never encountered.
After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1983, Jeff was employed for 39½ years by HII–Newport News Shipbuilding as an Interior Communications worker in Department X31. There he met the love of his life, his wife of 33 years, Darlene. He rose to the level of Specialist in his craft, working on aircraft carriers such as the USS Theodore Roosevelt, the USS John C. Stennis, and others. He participated in testing on carriers while out on sea trials. Jeffrey later transitioned to the Virginia Class Submarine Program, where he installed new systems on many submarines such as the USS Minnesota, USS Delaware, and others, before being selected to join Fleet Support (formerly known as the Tiger Team). During Fleet Support, Jeff traveled to places such as Connecticut, San Diego, and Hawaii, working with his team who repaired and installed new systems. Jeff received numerous awards and honors during his time in the Army and at Newport News Shipbuilding.
Jeff was a loving father to his daughter, attending her cheer leading events, and shared a special bond with his son, playing video games together "like two peas in a pod." His children will truly miss him and all of the experiences they shared. Jeffrey's parents instilled a strong work ethic in him. Jeff knew his craft well and mentored others because he believed knowledge should be shared, not kept to himself. He loved making people-especially his friends and co-workers-laugh. He never met a person he couldn't joke with. He had an infectious smile and a love for antique cars. He especially enjoyed seeing a "clean" car.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell M. Peele Sr. and Eva Lee Peele, and his brother, Reginald B. Peele. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene A. Peele; his loving children, son Christopher W. Peele and daughter A'sharea M. Peele; and his grandson, Onyx M. Peele. He is also survived by his brother, Wendell M. Peele Jr., and sisters, Sheila Tutt and Lisa Lee. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish their memories of him.
Jeff's illness took a toll on him, but he continued to fight until God said, "Enough." He knew the road was rough and the hills were hard to climb, so the Lord decided it was time for Jeffrey to travel with Him to Heaven.
"Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
It is the desire of the Peele family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
