Jeffrey D. Smith, age 55, of Henrietta, NY passed away Friday, August 8, at home with his family, after a valiant fight against melanoma.
Jeff was born in Elmira, NY, in 1969, to Glenn and Barbara Young Smith of Horseheads. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Tanya Thomas Smith of Henrietta, and his cherished daughters Kyra and Chloe. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Carolyn Thomas of Scottsville. Jeff was predeceased by his sister, Kimberly, and is survived by her children, Paige, Chase, and Morgan Doner and their father, Joe Doner, all of Horseheads. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many good friends.
Jeff was a skilled man who could build or fix anything. Whether it be a house from the ground up or a homemade piece of fine furniture, his talent was undeniable. He was often called upon by friends and neighbors to help with various household disasters. Jeff was humble, kind, loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was frequently caught on video by his kids dancing or cracking a joke in a loud humorous voice. Jeff spent summers growing up at Seneca Lake and later spent many special moments at Canandaigua Lake with Tanya and the girls. He loved to go boating, fishing, and enjoyed all water activities. Jeff also enjoyed watching Red Sox games with his family every season at Fenway Park and from the comfort of his home. Most important to him was his wife and girls. Everything he did was with them in mind and he supported them in every way. He attended many sporting events, school functions, and was always there to offer advice.
His absence will be felt by many. You will forever be in our hearts "Smitty."
In lieu of flowers, donations to URMC Hospice Home Care (WEBSITE) or The Melanoma Research Alliance (WEBSITE) are appreciated. The family is also accepting donations to support his daughters in their future.
Friends and family may call FRIDAY August 15th from 10 AM to 12 PM at Nazareth University Linehan Chapel (4245 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618) where Jeff's Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM.

I met Jeff in 1989 when we were academy classmates and came on the job together. Jeff was a great friend and will be missed terribly. Don't know too many people that were always positive but he was. Mt heart goes ou to Glenn, Barb, Tanya and the girls and all who grieve his loss. Rest easy Brother.

I met Jeff and most of all the family this early spring, when I presented Jeff`s Dad Glenn with a Quilt Of Valor Quilt. I could see the love he gave and the love the whole family shared, it was an emotional day of love for everyone. Glenn and Barb my Heart aches for you both and Jeff`s wife and girls, and the rest of your family and friends. Toni

I never was able to meet Jeffery in person but our contact with his mother has been a great benefit to our group. She was a very important part of our group, Elmira Piecemaker Quilt Guild. Our love is always with her family.

We knew Jeff thru his mother in law, Carolyn. He also worked on our house with Drew. Jeff was a very kind and caring man. I really admire his positive attitude in spite of his diagnosis. He will be missed.
