Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service - Manchester Avenue Chapel - Wabash on Feb. 2, 2026.
Jeffrey Scott "Jeff" Townsend, 61, learned the true color of Jesus's eyes at 4:29 pm, on Saturday, January 31, 2026. He was surrounded by loved ones until he walked in to the arms of Jesus to get the ultimate healing that he knew was coming. Jeff entered this world on October 25, 1964 in
Wabash, Indiana. He was the son of David and Tana (Brooks) Townsend. Jeff was a man of God. He loved the lord with all his heart and he believed that God was going to heal him. Jeff did get that healing when he entered the kingdom of heaven. His family knows he was welcomed by so many people that have gone before him.
Jeff lived many places in his life, but the places that he held closest were Dale, Illinois and
Wabash, Indiana. Jeff found his life partner in Wabash in 1984. He married Cathy Branson on June 21, 1986 at the Erie Street Free Will Baptist Church. Their union blossomed into an extraordinary adventure, where they built a beautiful life with 2 children. Anyone who knew Jeff knew that Cathy, Caleb and Brittany were his whole world and purpose. After some years, that changed when his best buddy Callum came along. Followed later by Riley, Maren, and Emmalyn "the 3 prettiest little girls in town". Jeff loved his family more than anything and he worked tirelessly to give them everything in life that he could.
Jeff was a very hard worker and he learned at a young age how to provide for his family. He went to work at General Tire in 1986 and was the last hourly employee to walk out when the factory closed in 2008. Jeff had a servant's heart and could always be found helping someone. If anyone called him with a need, he was always right there. He would help work on any church that needed assistance. He loved his John Deere mower and he mowed for his family, friends, and the church.
He was a member of The Church of God Worship Center on Mill Street in Wabash, where he ran the sound system and sang on Sunday mornings. Jeff had many hobbies in his life. In his younger years, he loved to fish and boat with his friends and family. As the kids got older, the hobbies changed. He enjoying taking Caleb and Tyler riding 4-wheelers when they were teenagers. Then, when the grandkids came, it was all about them. He enjoyed attending their soccer games, dance recitals, karaoke nights, and other extracurricular activities. Jeff could be found most every morning drinking coffee with all his friends at "the coffee shop". Jeff was an amazing carpenter, a good listener, he had wonderful singing voice and was a dependable friend. One thing that never changed over the years was his commitment to God, his family, and his friends.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Cathy. His children, Caleb (Molly) Townsend and Brittany Townsend. His grandchildren Callum, Riley, Maren and Emmalyn, all of Wabash. His brother Lonnie (Gretta) Townsend of North Manchester, sister Julie Frazer of Fort Wayne, his sister-in-law Tammy (Terry) Duncan of Wabash, his great aunt and uncle Bryan and Jill Brooks of Wabash. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces: Tyler (Makayla) Duncan, Mike "Shane" (Melanie) Tart, Misty Townsend and Timothy (Kasey) Townsend, Hali Bickford and Tristen Bickford, Sam Phat and Robert Phat, and several great nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, Ben and Edith Brooks, his mother and father-in-law, Don and Becky Branson.
