Grieco Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.Jeffrey Allen Volpe, age 68, of Landenberg, PA, passed away suddenly on April 8, 2025, while vacationing in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was the husband of Barbara Croyle, with whom he shared 19 years of marriage. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Herman R. Volpe, Jr. and the late Lavern Helen Russ Volpe.
At the time of his death, he was working for Battle Motors as Director of Service. He was in the trucking industry for 50 years and he loved to mentor, teach, and guide those with whom he worked. He could identify and fix a truck problem over the phone.
In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, visiting lighthouses, riding on scenic trains, cooking, fixing and making lamps, listening to contemporary jazz, and driving aimlessly around the countryside with Barbara, looking for an antiques shop or ice cream, or both. He and Barbara adopted cats with special needs so that they could have a good life. Jeffrey also rescued plants, spiders, turtles-anything that needed help. A turtle crossing the road would be gently lifted to safety. He had tremendous respect for all living things.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two cats, Oscar and Obi; two brothers, Mark and his wife, Mickey and Herman and his wife, Sharon; and his sister, Cathy Davis and her husband, Ron.
He often referred to himself as a “curmudgeon” but that was meant to hide his nurturing nature and warm and caring heart. God called him home too soon.
You are invited to visit with Jeffrey's family and friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Willowdale Chapel (in the old chapel) on 675 Unionville Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348. His life celebration service will follow at 11:00. A reception will be held in the church following the service.
