Jeffrey Stephen Zea, 70, of La Porte City, Iowa, passed away on May 21st, 2025, from a rare liver cancer at home surrounded by loved ones. A celebration of life will be held on June 28th, 2025, at the American Legion Post 207, 302 Cedar Street, La Porte City, Iowa 50651 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Jeffrey was born on September 19th, 1954 to David and Sylvia (Steinberg) Zea in Osage, Iowa. Jeffrey graduated from La Porte City School and shortly after, he joined the army. Jeffrey enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, collecting coins, collecting rocks, going on walks with his fur baby Angel, enjoyed classic cars, and most of all enjoyed spending time with family. On September 1st, 1985 Jeffrey and Gwendolyn Ann (Mathern) were united in marriage in Waterloo, Iowa. Later on in their marriage, they welcomed a son, Jakob Zea into the world.
He is proceeded in death by his son Jarrod; his fur babies (Muffin, Smokey, and Pixie); his parents David and Sylvia Zea; his mother-in-law Lois Spillman; his grandparents Patrick and Gertrud Steinberg; great-grandparents from both sides; aunt-in-law Marge; uncle-in-law Darwin, special uncle-in-law Darryl; uncle-in-law Wayne; his very special niece-in-law Rachel Reuter, and his Aunt Janice and Uncle Hank Guse.
Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife Gwen and Angel (fur baby) of La Porte City; his son Jakob (Samantha) Zea and grandchildren Lacie, Olivia, Walker, and Skyler (fur baby) of La Porte City; Becky (Bob) Smith of La Porte City, Mary Zea (Todd) of Wisconsin, his special little brother Steve of Ankeny, brother-in-law Glenn Delagardelle of Washburn, his special cousin Kim (David) Rabb of Minnesota, father-in-law, Robert Mathern of Waterloo; brother-in-law Tyree (Lory) Mathern of Arizona, sister-in-law Brendy Reuter of Waterloo, sister-in-law Jen (Chad) Swaney of Waterloo, sister-in-law Jenny (Billy) of Clinton, Oklahoma, and many other special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
