Born on February 16, 1954, in East Liverpool, Jeff was the beloved son of the late Paul H. and M. Jean Pepin Zehnder.
A proud graduate of East Liverpool High School, Class of 1972, Jeff was known for his vibrant personality-loud, funny, and brimming with empathy for those around him. His spirit thrived in the great outdoors, where he cherished hunting, fishing, gardening, and hiking. With an enduring passion for the river, he spent some of his formative years as a deckhand on the Delta Queen and local towboats. As a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and a lover of the city itself, Jeff found joy in every game and every visit. He also held treasured memories from his time spent in Erie, Pennsylvania, and he adored his grandchildren, who filled his heart with love and laughter.
After dedicating 37 years of his life to the East Liverpool Fire Department, Jeff retired, leaving behind a legacy of courage and service.
He was a proud member of the Elks Lodge #258, the Tri-State Coonhunters Club, and the Ohio Valley Boat Club, where he formed lasting bonds with fellow enthusiasts.
Jeff's loving wife, Karen Walker Zehnder, whom he married on June 26, 1982, will forever feel the void left by his departure, as will their daughter, Katie Bussard (Travis) of East Liverpool; his cherished grandchildren, Isabella and Nicholas Bussard; and his brothers, Mark and David Zehnder.
A heartfelt celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Noon at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, located at 220 W 4th St, East Liverpool, OH. Friends and family are warmly invited to gather for visitation from 11:00 AM to Noon prior to the service. Following the ceremony, a private interment will take place at the serene Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, a place that was dear to Jeff's heart. Jeff leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
