Jennie M Castellano

Jennie M. Castellano (nee DeMasi), 98 of Jackson made the journey from Earthly to Everlasting Life Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Centra State Hospital, Freehold.
Born in New York City and educated in the NYC school system, Jennie was employed as a typist for Westvaco Chemical Company before she answered her most cherished calling: wife and mother.
Jennie was blessed at a young age with a talent and passion for music. She played the mandolin and played the piano by ear. She was proud to have passed her musical genes on to her daughters and grandchildren. Jennie spent many years entertaining residents of local senior communities, treating them to her favorite tunes by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. She was known to play a mean Boogie Woogie.
Before moving to Jackson, Jennie was a communicant of St. Benedict Church, Holmdel, where she sang in the choir under the direction of her best friend Kathryn Paterson. She had an unshakable Faith in God and in difficult times found comfort in reading His word.
Jennie enjoyed craftmaking, but crocheting was her forte; a daily ritual that produced many-a carefully stitched blanket for newborn babies, scarves and shawls which she gave as gifts to family and friends. In recent years, she joined the Jackson Township Seniors' Crochet Club. Here she found a group of women who shared her interest in crocheting and who became friends.
She had many close relationships, some of which began in childhood and continued for decades, despite miles that may have come between them along the way. And she never, ever forgot to send a card or note to mark a special occasion or simply say hello.
Jennie was predeceased in 2004 by her husband Salvatore. She is survived by her loving daughters and their husbands; Diane and Roy Churchman of Manasquan, Carol and John DeLibero of Harrison, N.Y., Marie and Bill Bonomo of Ossining, N.Y., Regina and Bret Jefferson of Jackson and Jeanine and Kirk Andersen of Freehold. Jennie leaves 11 cherished grandchildren and 4 adored great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Monday, March 31, 2025 and 9 am Tuesday April 1, 2025 at Day's Funeral home, Keyport. A Mass will be offered 10 AM at St. Benedict RCC, Holmdel followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Jennie's memory to The Fresh Air Fund.
