Jennie Helena Heick Markow, age 93, born in Peterson, Iowa to Peter Heick and Annabelle Zimmerman Heick. Peter's parents came from Denmark and spoke Danish. Jennie had fond memories of piling all the kids in the car at Christmas to go to her Danish grandparents in Spencer attending the Lutheran church there. Jennie's mom's family were traced back to the Jamestown colony. Her mom Annabelle grew up in Cainsville, MO area. Jennie grew up on a farm on the Little Sioux River in Peterson, IA. She started school in a one room schoolhouse. She went to Omaha to study business, living with sister Rosie. She became a bookkeeper. She met Don on a Greyhound bus as he was traveling in the Navy where he was stationed in San Diego. She moved to MN to marry Don after his enlistment on the destroyer USS McKeon ended. She played golf for many decades with her group of women. She loved to travel, play cribbage and dominoes. She passed away at her home in Sun City, AZ on October 7, 2024 Preceded in death by parents, Peter and Anna Heick; brothers, Donnie, Ray, Chuck; sisters, Mary, Rosie, Dot, Jane Ann, and son, Bruce Markow. Survived by sister, Lucille Curtis of Ft Smith Arkansas; children, Karen Henderson (Paul), Richard Markow (Katie); grandchildren, Nathan Markow, Theresa Bender, Jill Peterson, Melissa and Johnny Wilson, Hannah and Cory Hughes; great-grandchildren, Alex, Alivia, Samantha, Tyler, Bruce, Emily, Silas, Mia, Wesley and Ava; great-great grandchild, Waylon. Jennie's family would like to thank the staff at Home Instead and Hospice of the Valley in Sun City.
Jennie's visitation will be on Sunday 10/20/24 from 4-7 pm at Hillside Cemetery Chapel

On Monday 10/21/24 there will be visitation at 10 and
Funeral service at 11am at
Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church
1509 27th Ave NE
Minneapolis, MN 55418
Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery where there will be a blessing done.
Luncheon at the church afterwards.
