York, SC – Jennifer Ann (Szostak) Hudson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the age of 52 after a courageous battle with leukemia, while her devoted husband, Chris, and beloved sons, Jayden and Luke, held her close.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Chris Hudson; her children, Jayden Hudson and Luke Hudson; her mother, Carole Szostak; sisters, Valerie (Bob) Zerbe and Christine Szostak; in-laws, Linda Shenton and Bud Lohr, Anne and Jennings Hudson, Frank Cagnina, Kim and Jeff Nees, Judy and Michael Hudson and Carla Cagnina; nieces and nephews, Brittany Zerbe, Brooke Zerbe, Alex Nees, Andrew Nees, Olivia Cagnina, Caroline Cagnina, Michael Hudson Jr. and Julia Hudson. Jennifer is predeceased by her father Donald Szostak.
The cherished daughter of Donald and Carole Szostak, Jennifer was born in Canton, Ohio, on June 15, 1973. Born into a family devoted to their faith, she received her first sacrament when she was baptized at All Saints Catholic Church and later received her First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Over the years, Jennifer continued to nurture her spiritual life, having most recently attended Lifepointe Church in Fort Mill, SC, with her husband and sons.
Jennifer's childhood was filled with adventures alongside her sisters, Valerie and Christine, from the secret club they held in the pine trees, and neighborhood games; to beach trips, camping trips, and summers at the pool. Growing up with a passion for cheerleading, she would often choreograph and teach new cheer routines in her driveway. Her warmth, creativity, and playful spirit made her a source of joy to those around her.
As a young girl, Jennifer loved playing school and helping her mom, Carole, in her classroom, so it came as no surprise when she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Akron in 1998, and followed in her parents' footsteps to become a lifelong educator. Jennifer spent 24 years working for the Fort Mill School District teaching kindergarten at Riverview Elementary, Orchard Park Elementary, and Doby's Bridge Elementary, where her greatest passion was to make learning fun and memorable for her students. Each year, Jennifer brought science lessons to life by hatching baby chicks, earning her the affectionate nickname "Chicken Mama." Known for her tireless dedication, Jennifer was often the last teacher to leave the building, often brewing a fresh pot of coffee hours after dismissal, focused on finishing just one more task before heading home.
While her career was incredibly rewarding, Jennifer's greatest joy was her family. In 2003, while working together at Riverview Elementary, Chris noticed Jennifer at a pep rally and was instantly smitten. Determined to land a date, he chose the finest apple from the Peach Stand, polished it until he could see his reflection, and then asked her out. She said yes, they went on to marry and last July, they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
Several years later, they welcomed sons, Jayden and Luke, who were Jennifer's pride and joy. Family time created lasting memories for the Hudsons, as movie nights, home cooked meals and large family gatherings with relatives became their way of life. Sharing Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving holidays with a large extended family anchored them and kept them close. One of Jennifer's favorite ways to spend a weekend was to visit with family at High Rock Lake where she loved riding jet skis at full speed, racing the kids and leaving Chris in her wake. When she wasn't on the water, she could be found cheering at Luke's wrestling tournaments. She never missed a match, and Luke fondly remembers, "she was the loudest one in the stands." Most recently, Jennifer was filled with pride when Jayden started college. As he explored majors and set a goal to study marine biology, Jennifer recognized his passion and was thrilled to see his future taking shape. Her unwavering devotion to her sons and the joy she found in their accomplishments remain a lasting part of her legacy. Jennifer's light and love remain with all who knew her, even as she rests now in the comfort of God's love.
