Mr. Jerald Carlton “Jerry” Brown, 77, of Peachtree Street, Elberton, GA, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Brown was born September 6, 1948, in Marianna, FL to Joe Mac Brown, Jr. and Mary Eunice Davis Brown. Jerry grew up in Laurel, MD where he attended Anne Arundel High School. He served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1976, serving during the Vietnam War. After serving, Jerry worked alongside his father and brother in construction. He attended Athens Technical College where he studied machinery, and worked at the Monroe Plant in Hartwell for many years. Jerry later became a detention officer at Elbert County Jail where he retired in 2013. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Dunn Brown; children: Denise Johnson of Elberton, GA, Dennis “DJ” Johnson of Greenwood, SC, Victoria Hanson of Houston, TX, and Brandi Moore of Elberton, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara Ann Smith and Bob Smith of Fredrick, MD and Regina Wells and Gary Wells of Englewood, FL; sister-in-law: Nicole Brown of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren: Blake Reynolds, Josh West, Chandler Getzinger, Brady Johnson, Abbey Tate, Dylan Owen, Fallon Moore, and Creed Moore; great-grandchildren: Brantley West, Brewer Tate, and Sebastian Getzinger to be born in January 2026; and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, D.D. Brown.
Funeral services to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held 2PM, Monday, October 20, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Fernandez and Rev. David McConnell officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman, GA with military honors. Pallbearers are Josh West, Brady Johnson, Frank Barton, Scott Kirby, Todd Kirby, and Corey Kirby.
The family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM Sunday night at Berry Funeral Home.
Flowers are optional and memorials can be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 75816, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
