Jerald "Kirby" William Wayne Cox went to be with his Lord and Savior July 26, 2024 at home, with his family by his side.
Born April 2, 1947, he was the son of the late Harry P. and Sarah C. Cox.
In addition to his loving parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Dawn Cox; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald G. Hayes and Sally B. Hayes; his brother, Donald Cox; and sister-in-law, Colleen Cox.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Donna K. Cox; his children, Matthew W. Cox and Tami, Meredith Gingrich, Carrie Cox, Casi Cox, and Chelsi Cox; grandchildren, Katelyn Whetzel, Kayla Cox, Heighden Gingrich, Billie Gingrich, Pierce Eddy, Madyson, Cox, McKinleigh Foutz, Paislee Foutz, Braelyn Younger, Brooklyn Wimbush, Maddox Borden, D'Marion, Laikyn, and Lux Vinson; five great grandchildren and one great grandchild arriving in September; siblings, Deloris (Keith) Bradshaw, Sue (Roger) Staggs, and Connie (Mike) Miltenberger; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also leaving behind his very best friends and hunting buddies from Ohio, Dan, Phylis and Brian & Todd Cox as well as his friends from Keyser, Carl and Meaghen Burns
Kirby was a veteran having served in the Army during the Viet Nam Era, 1965-1967.
He retired from CSX with 29 years of service.
He was very active hunting (rifle hunting and bow hunting) and fishing.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the funeral home, with Pastor Rita Beeman, officiating.
Interment will be in Biser Cemetery (at Mead's Chapel), where military honors will be accorded by Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Beth Merritt, 12149 Frankfort Highway, Fort Ashby, WV 26719.
The family would like to thank Tammy, Carrie, and Darla of Mountain Hospice, for being there for Kirby and our family.
