Jeremiah R. Johansen-Silva, 45, of Mattapoisett died October 29, 2022 while on vacation in the Philippines.
Born in New Bedford on May 6, 1977, son of the late Susan Alice Johansen-Silva and Brian Parker Silva, he lived in Mattapoisett most of his life.
Jeremiah's mother passed away in a car accident in 1983 and Jeremiah's grandmother Eleanor raised Jeremiah and his younger brother Andrew. Jeremiah spent some school years in Maine with his uncle Jon "Benny" Johansen then spent his high school years at Old Rochester Regional High School staying with his best friend and mentor Gary Leblanc, who he loved. Jeremiah then moved to Florida because he was happiest in the tropical weather. Jeremiah returned home to Mattapoisett to take care of his 92 year old grandmother Eleanor for the last 15 years.
Jeremiah went to the Philippines on a vacation to experience the world; he liked it so much that he want to stay and start a family. Unfortunately he contracted a fatal disease which took his life.
When he lived with his grandmother, he enjoyed inventing and tinkering with all kind of things, from plants to chemistry but drawing was his favorite and he also enjoyed movies and his vehicles.
Jeremiah loved to spend time at the Silva family cookouts with the live bands, trips to Newport, RI, Boston or the Cape. He enjoyed going to his first concert with his friend David Langhoff to see the Grateful Dead in 1989.
Survivors include his grandmother, Eleanor; his brother, Andrew Silva of Mattapoisett; his aunts, Donna Goldman of Maryland, Terry Cathcart of New Bedford and Debbie Zine of Wareham; his uncles, Bradford Silva of Marion, Frank "Skip" Silva of Mattapoisett, Matthew Silva of Marion, and Jon "Benny" Johansen of Maine; his stepmother, Michelle Silva of Bourne; his step-brother, Steven Milne of New Bedford; and numerous cousins.
He was the grandson of the late Robert G. Johansen, Frank Silva and Betty (Parker) Silva-Ouellette, and was the nephew of the late Robert Cathcart and Timothy Silva.
His visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett.
