With heavy hearts, we announce that our beloved son, grandson, brother, and uncle, Jeremy D. Schmidt, age 42, of Mandan, tragically took his own life on October 6, 2025, for reasons we may never get the answers to.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Mandan Moose Lodge. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, south of Mandan.
Cremation has taken place and the family will greet friends from 5-8 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the Moose Lodge on Friday.
Jeremy was born May 16, 1983, to JoAnn Olsen and Brian Schmidt. Raised and educated in Mandan, Jeremy was involved in 4-H and FFA growing up. He was elected President of the Mandan FFA chapter his senior year, graduating from Mandan High in 2001. He then attended Med Center One College of Nursing in Bismarck. Jeremy began his travel nurse career which landed him in Phoenix, AZ, specializing in heart and lung care for 15 years. He also worked at Arizona Heart, Mayo Clinic of Phoenix, and as an international flight nurse for REVA. Doctors would specifically request Jeremy because of his immense knowledge and specialized care. In 2021, Jeremy moved back to ND, taking a job with Innovative ECMO Concepts Inc. where he was instrumental in developing and coordinating ECMO programs and training at hospitals in numerous states throughout the United States. Jeremy enjoyed his work as a flight nurse and took great pride in caring for patients and made many friends with the medical staff he worked with.
Jeremy was effortlessly good at everything he did from his nursing career, being an amazing cook, caring for his plants and garden, and most of all farming with his brother, Nathan, step-dad, Steve, and Uncle Brad. He was in his glory when he was sitting in the tractor or combine or helping with cattle. Jeremy was proud of getting his own herd established. Jeremy was friendly and personable, a stranger to no one. He loved to volunteer and had many talents to share. He loved animals, fishing, and was a great dancer. Jeremy fiercely loved his family and was always there for anyone he knew. His nieces and nephews were his pride and joy and they will miss him so much. His death leaves a profound and unexplained emptiness that only love and countless happy memories can heal.
Blessed to have shared in his life are his parents, JoAnn and Steve Schmidt, Brian Schmidt (Darcy), and Sandy Fisher (Jon Schwartz); siblings, Carlie (Joe) Roeder, Nathan (Nikki) Schmidt, Kaylee (Joe) Schlosser, Coleton (Maggie) Schmidt, and Crystal Schmidt; nephews, James, William, and Albert Roeder, Coy Schlosser, Bennett and Ryan Schmidt, and soon to arrive, baby Schmidt; nieces, Aubree Schlosser, Kambree Schmidt, Kali Schmidt, Amalia Knutson, and Nellie Schmidt; his grandparents, Duane and Mavis Olsen, Erna Schmidt, Ronald Schmidt, and Gary Fisher; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends across the country.
Jeremy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gregor Schmidt, Donna Schmidt, and Vivian Fisher; nephew Jace Schmidt; and Uncle Wesley Fisher.
