Jerold "Jerry" Gibson, 76, of Afton, died Saturday December 6, 2025, at Greater Regional Medical Center in
Creston, Ia. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 13, 2025, at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. Pastor Jim Mossman will be officiate. Services will be live streamed. Flag presentation will be provided by Theodore J. Martens, Creston V.F.W. Post 1797. The burial will be at Oketo Cemetery in Oketo, Kan., at a later date. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m., Friday December 12, 2025, with the family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to be determined. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.
Jerold Lee Gibson was born October 12, 1949, in Marysville, Kan. a son to Dean Phillip Gibson and Esther C. (Geihsler) Gibson. He graduated from Summerfield High School in Summerfield, Kan.in 1967. Jerry began serving his country as a part of the Army Reserve in 1967. He also continued his education at Beloit Technical College in television repair and electronics.
On August 16, 1969, Jerry was united in marriage to Myrna M. Sejkora, from this union, they were blessed with four children, Phillip, Kristine, Jeffrey, and Curtis. They settled in Beattie, Kan. where he worked for New Holland Farm Implement and continued to serve his country as a part of the Army Reserve. They were later divorced.
On April 24, 1981, Jerry was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Lutjemeier in Miami, Okla., and from this union they were blessed with two children, Veronica and Ryan. They settled in Marysville, Kan. He later went to fulltime military service as a part of the U.S. Army and they moved to Fort Riley, Kan., later, being transferred to El Dorado, Kansas, where he continued to serve. The family moved to Creston in 1997 while Jerry continued his military career until his retirement in 2005. Jerry enjoyed being active, so he began working at the Southern Iowa Trolley in October of 2005, where he worked until 2023, and it was hard for him to give up that position. He enjoyed going to and watching his grandchildren's activities. Jerry was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.
Jerry is survived by his wife Cindy Gibson of Afton, Ia.; six children, Phillip (wife Krista) Gibson of Abernathy, TX., Tina (husband David) Blackmore of Platte City, Mo., Jeff (wife Carrie) Gibson of Kansas City, Mo., Curtis of Lenexa, Kan., Veronica (husband Justin) Stiens of Prescott, Ia., and Ryan (wife Chelsea) Gibson of Riverview, Fla.; many grandchildren; and a brother Danny (wife Karen) Gibson of Merrian, Kan.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Steve Gibson.
