It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Gorman at the age of 86, on November 11th, 2025, in Hawick, Minnesota, at his son's home, surrounded by family and his son's two Great Danes, whom he adored.
Jerry was born March 7th, 1939, to Cletus and Ella Gorman in Minneapolis. He grew up in St. Louis Park and graduated in 1957. He married Rhoda Crandell August 15th, 1958. They raised their two children, Denise and Richard, in Southwest Minneapolis. Jerry attended trade school and was a tool and dye maker. He worked for Honeywell for years. He later became a truck driver and worked at his dad's trucking and warehouse company, along with other trucking companies. Jerry was a hard worker who retired at 53 and never turned back.
He was an avid reader and was often known to be reading 3 or more books at the same time. Jerry was used as a "phone a friend" for his grandkids. He didn't need a computer or encyclopedia; if he didn't know the answer at that time, he would call the kids back. He had a photographic memory; if he read it somewhere, he had it stored in his brain.
He loved his time at his cabin in Hawick, spending many weeks and every weekend in the summer there. Later, Rich and Kellie built their retirement home on the site of the original family cabin homestead with Jerry in mind so he could have his own room and bathroom to live with them when he was ready. Jerry lived independently up until he became ill 3 weeks before passing. His goal was to live with Rich and Kellie at the lake home and to pass at the lake home. Tuesday, November 11th, was his last day on earth, and it was spectacular on all levels. That day, we arrived at the cabin from the hospital, and he showed off his great sense of humor, telling stories, some we had never heard before, looking at photos, watching a TV series he enjoyed, eating gelato, watching the best Northern Lights ever viewed from the lake house, and watching a soaring eagle fly up and down the lake. We now feel his spirit animal is an eagle. He passed very peacefully that night with family and his grandpups, Sammy and Marley, by his side.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Ella Gorman, his in-laws, Delmar and Mildred Crandell, his wife of 52 years, Rhoda Gorman, brothers-in-law, Doug, Jeff, Bruce, Leighton (Buzz) Crandell and Jerry Guthridge, Thomas Wimmer and Thomas Ottoson and his beloved cats, Higgins and Bits.
Survived by daughter, Denise ( Peter) Fitzpatrick; son, Richard (Michelle/Kellie) Gorman; grandchildren: Travis, and his daughter, Harlow, Adam, Drew (Maggie), their sons, Osmond (Ozzy)and Linus, Sarah (Steven), two brothers, Jack and Jim, in-laws, and many relatives and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held from 10am-2pm, Saturday, November 22nd, at the Cremation Society of MN. 4343 Nicollet Ave S, Minneapolis 612-825-2435
