Jerome Everett Smith, age 92, of New Salisbury, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 17, 1933, in Frenchtown, Indiana, Jerome was the son of Alva and Lillian (Lincoln) Smith. A proud Veteran of the United States Army, he served honorably as a sharpshooter and border guard between Russia and Germany during the Korean War while stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany.
Jerome worked as a truck driver for Eaton's Feed Mill and Mid- States Agriculture. On January 18, 1958, he married the love of his life, Margaret Fessel, with whom he shared 67 devoted years of marriage.
A longtime resident of Harrison County, Jerome was a faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Bradford, IN. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures-playing cards, guitar, hunting, dancing, and spending cherished time with his family.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mardell Brooks, Maxine Schwartz, Viola Fessel, and Virginia Rosenbarger; and his brother, Maurice Smith.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Smith; sons, Kevin (Jennifer) Smith and Ken Smith; daughter, Karen Funk; brother, Marvin (Sandy) Smith; grandchildren, Andrew (Emily) Smith, Lucas (Aimee) Smith, Kimberlynn (Joe) Clements, and Austin Humphrey; and four great-grandchildren, Landon and Ellie Smith, Caleb Woodward, and Ellis Clements.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey, IN, and again on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bradford, IN.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Bradford.
