Jerome Tyler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Boyd Family Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
Jerome Anthony "Apple Jack" Tyler departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, February 18, 2026 – just two days after celebrating his 64th birthday. Born February 16, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jerome was the son of J.T. Tyler and Geneva Johnson Tyler and was lovingly raised by his adoptive mother, Mrs. Lee Esther Potter. Jerome accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Testament Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon by Pastor Joel Tyler of Second Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, where he also served with the Outreach Ministry. He was a member of the Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Association Choir. Even with limited mobility, Jerome found a way to be there for others. That was just who he was. He loved his music and had a real gift in the kitchen. But if we're being honest, Jerome loved to eat – especially anything sweet. Depending on who you asked, her was Jerome, Jack, or Apple Jack. No matter what you call him, you couldn't help but love him.

Jerome leaves behind to treasure his memory: his daughter, Shawan Tyler Edwards of New Orleans, LA; one granddaughter, Shawan Edwards; one great-grandson, Richard Edwards; his brother, Tyrone (Gisele) Tyler of Houston, TX; his sister, JJ. Johnson of Los Angeles, CA; one niece, Ronique Tyler; one nephew, Justin Tyler of Houston, TX; one great nephew, Jaydien Tyler of Houston, TX; four aunts, Ola M. Tyler, Sue D. Johnson, JoAnn Johnson, and Hattie Hohnson, of New Orleans, LA; one uncle, Joe Johnson of New Orleans, LA; one godchild and a host of cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Geneva Tyler; brother; Patrick Johnson, grandparents; Jonas and Lily Tyler, and his adoptive mother Mrs. Lee Esther Potter. Family and friends are invited to attend the Homegoing Service on Saturday, March 7, 2026, for 10:00 a.m. at New Testament Baptist Church, 1817 Gordon Street, New Orleans, LA 70117. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Jack O. Battiste, officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery. Guestbook Online: www.anewtraditionbegins.com (504)282-0600.
