Jerry D. Alfstad

Jerry Dale Alfstad, 73, of Sabin, MN, died Monday, August 12, 2024, at Lilac Homes in Moorhead, MN.

Jerry was born August 11, 1951, to Frank and Myrtle (Hellend) Alfstad. He grew up and attended grade school in Bremen, ND and graduated from high school in Fessenden, ND. After high school, Jerry worked for a farmer and then later, on the oil rigs. Jerry then turned to working construction for his brother-in-law, Gale Halvorson. He worked in construction for several years. 

Jerry married Tammy Brandt, and they went over-the-road trucking together, each of them driving. Tammy’s daughter, Emma, accompanied them on many trips while she was young. Jerry and Tammy made their home in Sabin, MN and together they raised Emma and Tammy’s son, Cory, there. They loved their dogs: Trixie, Diesel and Chloe. Jerry and Tammy both began having health problems and ultimately could not work anymore. Jerry lost Tammy in the winter of 2022. Jerry’s health worsened and he could no longer live alone. He was in Moorhead Rehab for about a year, then he transferred to Lilac Homes in Moorhead, where he lived until the time of his death. 

Jerry is survived by his step-daughter, Emma Brandt (Shawn Arntson), of Moorhead; siblings, Shelene (Gale) Halvorson, Tucson, AZ, Marlene Chapman, Devils Lake, ND, Diane Smith, Billings, MT, Arlys (Arden) Brorby, Minot, ND, Dennis Alfstad, Seattle, WA, Virgene (Dean) Bemis, Billings, MT, Louella (Donnie) Shroyer, Crosby, ND, Nancy (Tim) Even, Aberdeen, SD, Penny (Dean) Forchas, Deerwood, MN, Brad Alfstad, Jamestown, ND and Greg Alfstad, Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law, Elaine Alfstad, Rugby, ND; brother-in-law, Bill Brandt (Ley Bouchard), Sabin, MN; and sister-in-law, Victoria (John) Wagner, Grand Chute, WI. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Alfstad; his wife, Tammy Alfstad; his step-son, Cory Brandt; his brother, Billy Alfstad and his brothers-in-law, Kenny Smith and Blair (Corky) Chapman. 

Jerry’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Lilac Homes for all the wonderful care provided to him.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, MN.
