Jerry Bishop, 87, who passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette, LA. Entombment will be in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Jerry Bishop, was born April 14, 1938, in Maze, MS and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. He grew up in Mississippi, joined the military and married the love of his life, Rosa Marin, for almost 59 years. Jerry was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army, Merchant Marines. After his time in the service, he worked as a crane operator in the oil industry for numerous years, including overseas. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, LA. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His obsession was hunting and fishing. Jerry was active in the Willow Creek Hunting Club. He was known for his loving heart; he never met a stranger. As a humorous person, his personality would easily light up a room with his contagious spirit. Family meant everything to Jerry, and he leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed. Jerry is survived by his two daughters, Sandra Bishop, of Lake Charles, LA and Jean Sullivan and her fiancé, Peter Daily, of Scott, LA; his four grandchildren, Valeska Nichole Menard, Ryan Lee Matthieu, Mason Taylor Matthieu and Peyton Daniel Chopp; his two great-grandchildren, Bryant Shane Fontenot and Samantha Lynn Jones and her husband, Tyler and his great-great granddaughter, Annalee Eve Rosa Jones and numerous dear nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Marina Marin Bishop and his parents, Hines and Ruby Polk Bishop. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Calcutta House of Lafayette for the compassionate care given to Jerry and his family.
