Jerry "Dr. B." Burghout passed away on January 21, 2025, at the age of 89.
Jerry was born in Muskegon Michigan to John and Lucille Burghout.
He joined the Navy when he graduated high school. He wanted to enlist so that he could participate in the ongoing Korean War. He was sent to school to train as a radioman and then began learning the responsibilities of a communications technician. His first duty station was at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Florida. This is where he met the love of his life, Miss Tillie Ann Sessions of Perry Florida and married shortly after. His final orders were for Charleston, South Carolina, where he retired with 22 years of service.
During his length of service, Dr. B acquired an undergraduate degree in psychology. Upon earning his PhD, he began working and served numerous significant positions to include Director of Correctional Treatment Services for the state of Florida.
Upon his final retirement he moved to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport Mississippi where he was heavily involved in volunteering with administration and public affairs. He enjoyed being a tour guide for potential new residents. He made several friends with other residents and staff at the Facility.
Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents John and Lucille Burghout, his wife Tillie Ann Burghout, and son John Burghout.
Jerry is survived by his sister Barbara Lloyd (John), son Gerald Burghout (Karen), daughter Ruth Rose, grandchildren Jennifer Rose, Jonathan Rose (Brooke), and Dr. Jedediah Burghout, great grandchildren Alexander Inherst, Adrian Inherst, John Allen Rose, and Jason Rose.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday February 1, 2025 at 2:00 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Danny Lundy Officiating.
