JERRY CARROLL
Henderson, TN: Jerry Lavaughn Carroll was born in the New Friendship Community on January 15, 1938, to the late Lonnie Houston and Madgie Mae Butler Carroll. He attended New Friendship school until going to Chester County High, graduating in 1957. After graduation he began to work for Bolton Motor Company and in 1960 began a 6-year stint with the Tennessee Army National Guard and then later worked at Rhodes Service Station. In 1969, he began his car career at Guinn Bros Inc. and finally retiring from Jeff Teague Jeep Chrysler in 2000.
His main reason for retiring was so he could sleep as late as he wanted. He did that and returned to his love of horses and visiting with the residents of Chester County Nursing Home, which he did almost every day. He loved to visit.
He was a founding member of the Chester County Saddle Club in 1965 and one of the original members of the “Over the Hill Gang”. He loved to buy, sell, and ride horses. He showed many of those horses and made many friends during this time.
He married his long-time love, Nadine Freeman Carroll on March 19, 1965, and in 1967 they had one child, Janet.
He attended First Assembly of God for years, but in his last few years he attended First Baptist Church with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Thomas Wayne in 1934 and Leon in 2020.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine, of fifty-eight years and eight months and his daughter, Janet, nieces and nephews, Ginny Mount, Debbie Morris, Kim Carroll and Wesley Freeman and several great nephews and nieces also, a very special cousin who was like a brother, Carroll Priddy and a dear friend, Randy (Red) Butler.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Ronnie Geary officiating. Burial will follow at Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday.
