Gennaro "Jerry" Di Sauro passed from this world on January 18, 2025 in Fall River, Ma. Jerry was born
on September 15, 1942 in Naples, Italy to Salvatore Di Sauro and Nancy Pergola. Jerry and his family
moved to 116 th street in New York in 1955.
As a young man Jerry started a lifelong career as a skilled and gifted chef in restaurants across NYC,
eventually finding himself in Baldwin, NY as a chef at the "The Old Venice Inn" on Merrick Rd where he
honed his culinary skills. It was there that he first set eyes on the love of his life, Barbara Vriale. They
were married on February 19, 1966 and settled in Lynbrook, NY. Their two daughters, Patricia and
Kathleen, were born a few years after.
Jerry and Barbara became eventual owners of the "Old Venice Inn". Their hospitality, the delicious
dishes and the legendary brick oven pizza is still talked about today. Everyone that walked in the door
became a friend and no one left hungry. Jerry had an infectious laugh, a fabulous sense of humor and
was warmth personified. Everyone loved him.
In his free time Jerry loved to fish and was the self-proclaimed "Duke of Fluke". Aside from fishing
Jerry's joys in life were cooking, going to the beach, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens,
watching his beloved Yankee's and Giants and spending time with his family at family dinners. Jerry was
also a movie connoisseur and trivia buff winning several trivia contests on the cruises he and his wife
went on. His cooking was incredible. No one made a pot of Sunday sauce, or rice balls, potato
croquettes and artichokes quite like him. Watching Jerry create a holiday feast was a thing of beauty.
He was a consummate chef with his wife Barbara as the cleanup crew to his culinary masterpieces.
Working in the restaurant industry also helped him to be fluent in several languages.
Jerry was proud of being Italian. He loved the country, the culture, the music and of course, the food, of
his native land. It was never far from his heart and he enjoyed his trips back over the years.
Jerry and Barbara moved to Tiverton, Rhode Island in 2018. There, they made countless more friends,
hosted many more dinners and enjoyed their deck where Jerry marveled at the abundance of birds and
wild turkeys, deer and wildlife.
Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughter Patricia Graziano, son in law Mark Graziano, daughter
Kathleen Eichinger, son in law Robert Eichinger, grandchildren Alexandria Colker and her husband
Jeffrey Colker, Eric Graziano, Erin Eichinger and great grandchildren Gianna and Luciano Colker. He is
also survived by his sister Louise Borelli and countless relatives here and in Italy.
