DURHAM: Jerry Wayne Earp, 73, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Duke Regional Hospital. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late DeWarner Earp and Nettie Rhew Earp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchild, Hayden Earp.
Jerry was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He loved being surrounded by family, especially around the holidays. A mechanic by trade, you could always find him with dirty hands from helping friends fix their cars. If he wasn't under the hood of a car, you could be sure he would have a fresh strawberry cupcake in hand to satisfy his sweet tooth. We will all miss sitting on the front porch during rainstorms hearing him share his fun stories from the past, reminiscing about his old baseball days.
Mr. Earp is survived by his wife, Betty Darliene Earp; sons, David Garrett and wife Wendy, Terry Earp and wife Rhonda; daughter, Cynthia Earp Hugyez and husband Mark; grandchildren, Stephanie Beck and husband Kyle, Jordan Earp, Nathan Garrett and wife Laci, Colin Earp, Charlee Hugyez; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard Earp and wife Maxine; and sister, Faye Earp.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 6th at Clements Funeral Chapel with Bishop Johnny Godair and Pastor Nathaniel Urshan officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Pentecostal Church of Durham online at https://www.fpcdurham.org/give
