Jerry Michael Horton, age 87, of Madison, Indiana, and son of the late Ralph and Frances (Litson) Horton, was born on September 3, 1937, in Madison. After graduating from high school, he proudly served our country in the United States Navy. For many years, he worked at the Jefferson County Proving Grounds and then began a career at the Internal Revenue Service where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as a deacon. Jerry loved fishing and made several trips to Canada and the Great Lakes with his buddies over the years. He enjoyed hunting, listening to and attending the opera, watching Indiana University basketball and the Cincinnati Reds, and collecting paintings and various antiques. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969, the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion, the Madison Elk's Lodge #524, and the Madison Moose Lodge #765. Mr. Horton passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
His life will be cherished by his nephews and niece: Robert "Bob" Horton and his wife, Carol, Jane Horton Weixelbaum and her husband, Rick, William Horton, and Danny Horton; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Donald Horton who passed away on April 9, 2019 and William Robert Horton; and several aunts.
Pastor Doug Walker will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Monday, April 21, 2025 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may visit at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday.
Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion.
