Jerry Junior Luttrell, 79, of Rensselaer, IN passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. He was born in Rensselaer on December 29, 1945, son of the late Henry Luttrell and Caroline (Cooper) Luttrell.
On November 21, 1969, in Wheatfield, IN he married the love of his life, Helen Martin.
Jerry worked in construction, specializing in concrete. He worked on the construction of I-65 and the local rest areas. Over the years, he worked on many projects such as schools and hospitals across northwest Indiana. He also worked on the construction of the NIPSCO Schahfer Generating Station in Wheatfield. He began working for Local Union #41 in 1978.
He also cut and hauled wood and was a favorite vendor at the Rensselaer Farmer's Market, where he sold the abundant produce from his garden. He enjoyed tending to his garden, fishing and racing.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Luttrell of Rensselaer, IN; four children: Trina (Erik) Burton of Brook, IN, Roxanne Luttrell of Rensselaer, IN, Sarah (Danny) Lonsberry of Wheatfield, IN and Tony (Brandy) Luttrell of Rensselaer, IN; two brothers, William Luttrell of Rensselaer, IN and Marvin (Deb) Luttrell of Liberty, KY; three sisters: Lula Floyd of Mt. Ayr, IN, Rose Schultz of Monticello, IN and Phyllis Smith of Lafayette, IN. Fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Luttrell; his parents, Henry and Caroline Luttrell; two great-grandchildren, Kimber Schultz and Calvin Minter; and two nephews, Jimmy Smith and Jerry Durflinger, Jr.
Visitation will be Monday, August 4, 2025 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Mike Putman officiating. Burial will be at DeMotte Cemetery.
