Brenda Gail (Mathes) LuttrellFebruary 16, 1945 - February 28, 2025Brenda Gail (Mathes) Luttrell, age 80, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 28, 2025 at home. She was born on Friday, February 16, 1945 in Erwin to the late Oscar Mathes and Thelma Rebecca (Higgins) Mathes. Brenda was a wonderful wife, mother, and mamaw who loved her family very much. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, CR Luttrell, her daughter, Tina Rebecca Peterson, and one brother, Wayne Mathes. Those left to cherish Brendas memory include her son, Carlos Hopson (Stephanie), her daughter, Stephanie Edwards, all of Erwin, and her daughter, Shelley Gouge (Joe), of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren: one very special granddaughter, Brittany Edwards, Laban Peterson (Bayley), Cheyanna Hyder, Jacob Gouge, Caleb Gouge, LeAirah Gouge, Daniel Peterson (Faith), and David Peterson (Taylor); nine great grandchildren, including one extra special great granddaughter, Nolee Edwards; four siblings she loved dearly: one brother, Thomas Mathes (Maddie), and three sisters, Shirley Lusk, Norma Adkins (Richard), and Jodie Tipton, all of Erwin; and a host of nieces and nephews.Brenda was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed listening to Charles Stanleys sermons since she became homebound. She worked at Industrial Garment when she was younger, made many wonderful friends while working at Whites grocery store for many years, then later became a homemaker, traveled and camped a lot, and spent many days caring for and loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being a Mamaw was the highlight of her life. She loved flowers and bird watching. She was an excellent cook and canned many things over the years, which was time well spent and treasured with her children. Brenda had such a heart for giving to, and caring for, others. She never met a stranger and made everybody feel like part of her family, regardless of how long she had known them. She wanted to see people happy. She was spunky, loved to laugh, and was always up for an adventure. Brendas kindness, warmth, and love will be missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and joy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. A lifetime of beautiful memories made with her will be cherished by her family and friends, always. She was an incredible little woman with a huge heart. To honor Brendas wishes, the services will be private for the family. Active pallbearers will be Carlos Hopson, Joe Gouge, Jacob Gouge, Caleb Gouge, David Peterson, and Laban Peterson. Pastor Tommy Hensley will be officiating the private service and Reverend Charlie Byrd will be leading.Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at www.valleyfuneral home.net or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/valleyfuneralhomeerwin these arrangements are made especially for the family of Brenda Gail (Mathes) Luttrell through Valley Funeral Home, 1085 N.
