Jerry “Owen” Moore, known affectionately by many names, Husband, Dad, Papa, Pop, Son, Brother, Brother-in-law, and Brother in Christ, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, in Columbia, Tennessee. He was born on January 24, 1943, in Summertown, Tennessee, to Grady Lee and Euna Elizabeth Curtis Moore.
Owen accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age at Summertown Baptist Church. His faith remained a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member and Deacon at Southside Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant for many years. He found joy and comfort in worship and rarely missed a service, always eager to be in fellowship with his church family.
In 1963, Owen met the love of his life, Sue Ellen Cummins. They married just three months later and shared 40 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and adventure, raising two sons and traveling whenever they had the chance. After Sue's passing, Owen found love again with a dear friend and fellow church member, Ruby Joyce Scruggs. Their five years together were full of joy and youthful affection, often described as “giggling like teenagers,” until her passing in May of this year.
A true outdoorsman, Owen loved the serenity of nature. Whether fishing year-round or hunting during every season, he remained active and passionate about the outdoors well into his 80s. His happiest moments were those spent with his family, especially with his son Scotty, with whom he shared a remarkable father-son bond, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. His face would light up with pride and joy whenever they came to visit.
Owen dedicated 24 years of hard work as a Journeyman Lineman at CPWS before retiring. He was respected for his strong work ethic, integrity, and easygoing nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sue Moore, his second wife Joyce Moore, and his siblings, Betty Benderman and Charles Moore. He also reunites with special sister-in-law Brownie Cummins Hill and brothers-in-law George Cummins, Charles Cummins, Harvey Benderman, and Lanny Benefield.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Scotty (Denise) Moore and Monte Moore, and stepdaughter Tammy (Randy) Driver. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Britt (Jeddie) Moore, Kurtis (Savannah) Moore, Brookelyn (Jonathan) Pike, and step-granddaughter Cassie (Josh) Cornwell. His great-grandchildren, Oliver Moore, Breland Moore, Broden Pike, Coleson Pike, and Cameron Moore, brought endless joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister, Cinthia Moore Benefield, special friends Vicky (Perry) Hall and Morris Wayne (Dana) Green, and special nieces Kellye Ruth (David) DePriest and Kaye (Steven) Boshers, along with many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Benefield, Michael Joe Davis, Morris Wayne Green, Perry Hall, Chucky Moore, and William Trousdale.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Poplar Estates for the loving care and kindness shown to Owen. Many of the nurses and techs became like family, and their compassion will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, October 14th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A celebration of Owen’s life will take place on Wednesday, October 15th, at 12:00 p.m., also at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. He will be laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery following the service.
Owen’s legacy of faith, family, and love for the outdoors lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
