Jerry Lynn Moorhead, age 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully at his home in Gun Barrel City, Texas on June 8, 2025. He was born on July 1, 1952 in Roswell, New Mexico to Parents Sam and Christine Moorhead.
Jerry was from a multigenerational cattle ranching family in New Mexico. He was a rancher for many years before moving to Texas to become a funeral director and mortician. He built and owned Moorhead Epps Funeral Home in Gun Barrel City, Texas for 20 years. He will leave a legacy of love, caring and extraordinary kindness to his many customers, family, friends and loved ones. He was a man that brought warmth and support to everyone around him. He sold and retired from Moorhead Funeral Home in 2023 to enjoy retirement life. He especially enjoyed being outdoors, camping and boating.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Sam A. Moorhead; mother, Christine Denton Moorhead and first wife, Jamie Southard Moorhead.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda of Gun Barrel City; son, Evan Moorhead and wife Brittany of Sachse, Texas; step-daughter, Anesia J. Vanderlaan and husband John of Gun Barrel City; brother, Sam E. Moorhead and wife Carol Ann of Roswell, New Mexico; sister, Sandra C. Moorhead and husband Jerry Jeram of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Mason and Liam Moorhead of Sachse, Texas; step-granddaughter, Erin Vanderlaan of Gun Barrel City and other family members, numerous friends and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Moorhead Funeral Home.
