On February 15, 2025, God called for another angel to join Him in heaven. Wrapped in the loving arms of Jesus and surrounded by his family, Jerry Franklin Nelms drew his last earthly breath. As tears were shed by those in the room, an incomparable celebration began in heaven.
Born in 1941 to the late James and Sarah Nelms, Jerry was a life-long resident of Oconee County. He served as a deacon at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, and he cared for the members of that church like he cared for his family, because that is what they were to him. To know Jerry was to know love, compassion, faith and kindness. He spent his entire life working and taking care of others.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife and true love, Brenda Gayle Nelms, his oldest son, Milton Keith Nelms, grandson Eric Blaine Vickery, and two brothers Roger Dale Nelms and James Earle Nelms.
Jerry is survived by his children Kathy Owens (Randy), Michael Nelms (Cathy), Rex Nelms (Mary) and Tarra Holloway (Chet) and his grandchildren Jerica Vickery, Christian Nelms, Liam Nelms, and Taylor and Emma Smith. Jerry is also survived by sister Barbara Brown (children Tonya Brown-Smith (Joey) and Richard Brown) and Rick Nelms (wife Jane).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry's honor to Reedy Fork Baptist Church, 115 E Reedy Fork Rd, Seneca, SC 29678, or to Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills, ATTN: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Dr., Seneca, SC 29672.
