Jerry Powers, 82 of Scottsburg passed away at home on April 14, 2025. He was born on September 12, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in Paoli, Indiana and graduated from Paoli High School in 1961. He served in the Army National Guard for four years. He and his wife, Wilma were active in the building of the Underwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a simple, quiet man who enjoyed life. He worked for Jay C Food stores for many years and retired as a Meat Buyer. He also owned Family Real Estate in Scottsburg, where he was a real estate broker. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Henryville. He will be remembered for being kind, gentle and his love of teaching people things that will better their lives. He took his first solo air flight as a pilot. He enjoyed camping, learning to pull his 40-foot RV through heavy city traffic. He also loved wood working. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Powers; and his siblings, Sarah Andis, Jasper Powers, Dorothy Bykey and Larry Powers. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Wilma of Scottsburg, Indiana; his two sons and their wives, Aaron and Denise Powers of Underwood and Devin and Jennifer Powers of Lanesville; grandchildren, Samantha and Kive Fink of Scottsburg and Jeramy Powers of Underwood; and great-grandchildren, Finley, Dani and Bailey of Underwood.
Friends may visit with Jerry's family from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Kosair Children's Hospital c/o Collins Funeral Home. Please share memories and condolences at www.collinsfuneralhome.net.
