Funeral services for Jerry Kevin Pruett, 66, of Gainesville, are set for 2:00 PM Monday, April 15, 2024 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Nathan Cook, of Waco, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, from 12:30 to 2:00 PM preceding the funeral.
Jerry passed away on April 10, 2024 at Texoma Healthcare Center in Sherman. He was born on July 15, 1957 to Joe Irron and Ruth Nix Pruett at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock, AR.
As an Air Force kid, Jerry lived in Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Arkansas. He attended many different schools until his father retired and the family moved to Gainesville where he enrolled in 9th grade in 1971. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1975, attended Cooke County College and North Texas State University. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Youth Choir during his teen years, going on Choir trips to New Mexico, California, and Florida.
Mr. Pruett had a long career as a registered nurse. He loved his black chows and enjoyed hiking in Ray Roberts State Park looking for wildlife before he became disabled. He enjoyed cooking, taking care of his cats, and watching birds in the backyard until his health declined.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Ruth Nix Pruett of Gainesville; uncle and aunt Sanford and Debbie Nix of Malvern, AR; cousins: Alan Nix and wife Cassie, their children Mason, Emma, and Presley of Malvern, AR, Mary Lou Douglas of Elm Mott, Joanne Douglas of Round Rock, Carol Randolph and husband Joel of Keachi, LA, Ron Pruett and wife Sharon of El Paso, Phyllis Blackwood and husband Larry of El Mott, Sherrie DiSalvio and husband Gerry of Corona, CA, Collin Bosiger and wife Samantha of Richmond, VA, Denise DiBiccaro and husband Michael of Crossville, TN, Jean Riggs Barton of Corpus Christi, C.J. Riggs and wife Jama of Terrell.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father Joe Irron Pruett; brother David Craig Pruett; grandparents Steve T. and Ola Riggs Pruett and Elmo and Myrtie Clifton Nix; all of his Pruett uncles: Steve W., Lloyd L., Larry F., and Arlon, and their wives. He is also preceded in death by his cousins: Michael Pruett, Lynol "Butch" Pruett, Jean Pruett Parker, Danny Lee Pruett, and Jackie Riggs.
Pallbearers will be Alan Nix, Robbie Baugh, Sparky Flint, Lee Shenk, Larry Smith, and Tim Stobaugh.
Honorary pallbearers are Sanford Nix, Ron Pruett, Mark Shasteen, and Garry Felderhoff.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Sanctuary Renovation, First Baptist Church Youth, Noah's Ark, or a charity of your choice.
