Jerry Tucker Robertson was born on October 28, 1940, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to the late Freddie and Mattie Robertson. He was the youngest among five siblings: James Robertson (deceased), Maggie Bell (deceased), Freddie Robertson Jr. (deceased), and Betty Robertson.
Embracing Christianity from an early age, Jerry was a member of Bailey Tabernacle CME in Tuscaloosa. He found lifelong companionship in Mary Alice Robertson, whom he married in 1964, and together they relocated to Dallas, Texas. After 40 years of marriage, Mary passed away in 2004. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Wayne, and Demarius.
In his pursuit of a career, Jerry ventured to Tyler, Texas, in his early twenties to pursue licensure as a barber. Settling in Dallas thereafter, he explored various professions, delving into realms such as real estate and commercial truck driving. However, it was at Rainbow Bakery in Dallas where Jerry truly made his mark, dedicating over 34 years to his career.
Jerry's legacy as a trailblazer was evident throughout his time at the bakery. He notably became the first African American to integrate into production at Rainbow Bakery, breaking barriers in the workplace. Additionally, he was among the earliest African Americans to secure membership in the Worker's Union at the bakery. Jerry's experiences at the bakery, including encounters with segregation such as drinking from "whites only" water fountains, were stories he shared to illustrate the challenges he overcame. He embodied the spirit of a trailblazer.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jerry remained deeply committed to his community and faith. He was an active and devoted member of Mosley Chapel CME, where he faithfully served as the Usher Board President. Jerry's dedication and leadership extended beyond his workplace, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memories:
Son, Jerry Wayne Robertson, Daughter, Demarius Washington (Michael Washington), Sister, Betty Robertson, Special Friend, Martha Cox, and her daughter Jana Houston Gilyard, Honorary Daughter, Darlene Dodd, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
