Our loving husband and father passed away on Friday, July 9, 2022 with his family by his side. Age 75 years.
Jerry was born on January 27, 1947 in Fort Dix, New Jersey to the late Frederick and Verna (Schindler) Ruppel while his father was in the Service. He was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1965. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. Jerry met his wife, Lorraine Schmeck shortly after high school. They married on May 11, 1968 and enjoyed 54 years of wedded bliss together.
Jerry was a plumber/pipefitter and member of UA Local 85 Plumbers and Steamfitters for 45 years. He retired from General Motors Lake Orion Assembly with over 20 years of service.
An avid golfer, Jerry was a longtime member of Maple Hill Golf Club until its closure and Swan Valley Golf Club thereafter. He had many special friends he enjoyed golfing with in the summer and in the winter playing poker waiting to get back on the golf course. Jerry and Lorraine enjoyed many golf trips with friends over the years. Jerry was also a member of the Moose Lodge 82.
In addition to golf, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was always ready to lend a hand.
Along with his wife Lorraine, left to cherish his memory are is daughter Paula and son-in-law Steve Coffee; his very special grand dog Stella; his favorite sister-in-law JoAnn Baumann; special nephew Robert Schmeck of Lyman, South Carolina; Sisters Judy O'Dell, Janet Santino and Joanne (Rick) Prevost and many other nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Jerry's Life on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Hills Tavern, 7304 Gratiot Road, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m.
