Jerry Joe Small

Jerry Joe Small, 89, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at his residence in Spring Hill, Florida, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Judy Small, with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage.

Born on December 4, 1936, in Duff, Indiana, Jerry was the son of the late Frank and Lydia Small. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years before embarking on a long and accomplished career as an electronic engineer. Over the course of more than 50 years in the industry, he worked with Sperry and Trak Microwave Corporation in Tampa, where his expertise, dedication, and innovative mind left a lasting impression.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman whose happiest moments were spent on the water. He especially loved taking his boat out on the Weeki Wachee River, where he found peace, adventure, and pure joy. Whether casting a fishing line, exploring while snorkeling, or simply taking in the gentle flow of the river, the water was his sanctuary.

Music was another of Jerry's lifelong joys-he loved playing his harmonica and keeping lively rhythms with his spoons, always eager to share a tune and a smile with those around him.

A spirited Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, Jerry cheered on his team with enthusiasm. He also enjoyed wood carving and tinkering with computers, hobbies that reflected both his creativity and his curious mind. Above all, Jerry will be remembered for the deep love he held for his family, his great sense of humor, and the joyful laughter that could brighten any room.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Judy Small; his son, Steve Small (Kim); his daughters, Sharon Schnitzler and Wendy Driggers (Jim); and five cherished grandchildren: Jessica Ferrara, Hunter Ferrara, Cassandra Small-Pratt, Jared Schnitzler, and Tyler Gagnon. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Smith (Jerry), and his brothers, Jimmy Small (Karen) and Bill Small (Linda).

He is predeceased by his parents and by his brothers, Edward Small and Johnny Small.

Jerry's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
