Funeral services for Jerry Spivey, 80, of Cayuga, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at Cayuga Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery near Cross Roads under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Spivey passed away on September 22, 2025, in Athens.

Jerry Leo Spivey was born on September 20, 1945, in Athens, Texas, to James Leo Spivey and Maudie Pearl (Fletcher) Spivey. He joined the National Guard in 1965 and served for seven years before beginning his career with Safeway where he retired after 21 years. Jerry decided to follow that retirement with a 15-year career at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). Jerry was passionate about sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and looked forward to attending the Cowboys Training Camp each summer. He loved going to church and often enjoyed lunch in Athens after the service. Fondly known as "Paw Paw" by his grandchildren, Jerry was a quiet man with a big heart who cherished his family deeply. Although he wasn't a man of many words, his family always felt his love, and he was loved in return. Jerry also treasured his friendships and will be dearly missed. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is in his Heavenly home, free from pain, and at peace.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Juanell, Lillie, and Virginia.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Linda Sue Spivey; his children, Jamie Mascorro and Chad Spivey and wife Julie; his grandchildren, Landon Spivey and Ally Odom, Jake Mascorro and Anna Culp, Laynee Jenkins and husband Tristan, Jacie Mascorro and Westley Hodge, Klayton Watson and wife Macy, and Karlie Davis and husband Tristan; and great-grandchildren, Loxley Watson, Talon Watson, Krew Davis, Dally Davis, and Tripp Davis.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tristan Jenkins, Tristan Davis, Jimmy Mascorro, David Kelley, Jim Duncan, and Kerry Chasteen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Mascorro and Landon Spivey.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
