Funeral services for Glenda "Sue" Thomas, 84, of Athens, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Carroll Springs Community Church with Pastor Matthew Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Springs Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Ms. Thomas peacefully passed away on August 31, 2025, in Haughton, Louisiana.

Glenda Sue Thomas was born on May 14, 1941, in Athens, Texas, to John Gifford Thomas and Mollie Irene (Cummings) Thomas. A lifelong member of Carroll Springs Community Church, Glenda devoted her life to her family and her faith.

Sue was the proud mother of six children, whom she raised largely on her own with grace, strength, and unwavering love. Her greatest joy was her family, and her life was a shining example of perseverance, kindness, and sacrifice. She poured herself into caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her legacy of love will live on through them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Joseph Miller and Timothy Tyler; her siblings, Elvis "Ben" Thomas, Johnny Thomas, and Brenda Halbert; her son-in-law, Hal Herring; her grandchild, Tabitha Herriage; her great-grandchildren, Travis Buford, Dalton Greathouse, Christian Neel, and Samantha Mandrell; and her great-great-grandchildren, Kamden Cheek, and Owen Michael Goebel.

Sue leaves behind a family who adored her: her children, Debbie Ramsey and husband Raymond of Waskom; Vickie Herring of Waskom; Kimberly Cole and husband David of Waskom; and Tracie Underwood and husband Chann of Haughton, Louisiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren Shawnda Shearer, Shane Ramsey, Keelan Ramsey, Tamera Lopez, Devin Cole, Lisa Dodd, Amber Dodd, Olivia Bennett, Betty Coombs, James Greathouse, Curtis Cheek, Chris Cheek, Michael Chandler, Chris Catron, Amanda Miller, Brynt Miller, and Chloe Miller. She is further survived by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory.

Sue will be remembered not only for her tireless devotion to her family, but also for her unshakable faith, her resilience in the face of hardship, and the way she made everyone feel loved and cared for. Her life was a gift to those who knew her, and her spirit will forever inspire her family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ronny Halbert, Justin Halbert, Shane Ramsey, Keelan Ramsey, Branson Dodd, and James Greathouse. Honorary pallbearers will be David Cole and Riley Green.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
