Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory - Piedmont on Oct. 6, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Thomas Thacker, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on October 4th, at the age of 84. Born on May 16, 1941 in Piedmont, Jerry lived a life defined by love, integrity, and quiet strength. He was the kind of man whose presence brought comfort, whose laughter brought joy, and whose wisdom shaped generations. Jerry found immense joy in sharing his time and talents with others, especially through his love of coaching women's softball. His dedication to the sport and the athletes he mentored went far beyond the field-he believed in building confidence, character, and teamwork. His commitment to service extended to his long and honorable career with the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his reliability, work ethic, and friendly demeanor. In his quieter moments, Jerry enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing and golf, finding peace on the water and joy in a well-played round. These hobbies brought him relaxation and connection, reflecting the calm, thoughtful nature that defined his life. Above all, he was a devoted father to Becky, Tim and Jim, guiding them through life with unwavering support, gentle counsel, and a steady hand. His pride in their accomplishments was surpassed only by the love he showed them every single day. As a grandfather to Nicole and Micah, his heart only grew fuller, cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren. Whether it was sharing stories, lending an ear, or simply sitting quietly by their side, he made each grandchild feel seen, heard, and deeply loved. Jerry's legacy is one of kindness, humility, and dedication. He worked hard, loved deeply, and gave selflessly - always placing the needs of others before his own. His home was a place of welcome, his life a model of compassion, and his memory a lasting treasure. He is survived by his children Becky Stewart (Scott), Tim Holbrook, Jim Holbrook; grandchildren, Nicole Stewart (Jacob) and Micah Stewart (Kayla); great grandchildren, Aiden, Kolson, Kason, Cash, Kinsley, Ava, Gabriel, and all those lucky enough to have called him family or friend. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia; parents, Walter and Pauline Thacker; brothers, Jack Thacker and William Thacker. Pallbearers will be Tim Holbrook, Aiden Willingham, Kolson Stewart, Kason Fortenberry, Jacob Fortenberry, Scooter Franklin, Ty Franklin, Grayson Ingram, and Zach Reynolds. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Pace, Archie Floyd, Bobby Murphy, Randy Morgan, John Strickland, Mike Clarkson, Dean Christopher, Michael Barrett, and Art Ingram. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 2:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home with the. Rev. Michael Ingram officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Though he may no longer walk beside us, Jerry's spirit lives on in the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the memories we carry forward. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
