SUMMITVILLE, IN – Jerry A. Turschman, 85, entered peace and rest from his residence on Saturday, February 21, 2026, following an extended illness.
He was born on September 18, 1940, in Wabash to Bruce and Leta (Conrads) Turschman and has lived in Fairmount and Summitville all his lifetime. Jerry was a graduate of Fairmount High School-Class of 1958. He served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve. Jerry worked for 48 years in the family business, Turschman's Grocery in Summitville. More recently, he was a forklift operator in the Shipping Department at Red Gold for 26 years, retiring in 2017. Jerry served on the Summitville Fire Department and at one time was Assistant Chief. He was a member of the Fairmount American Legion and attended the Orestes Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors and fishing, weeding his garden and caring for his yard were all things that gave him enjoyment. Jerry thoroughly enjoyed the game of Yahtzee, especially playing with his wife and family members. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR. Jerry was a hard worker on behalf of his family. It is said that because he had the "gift of gab," Jerry never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father in-law and mother in-law-Coy and Myra Phelps, brothers-in-law-Edsel Joyner, Richard Byrd and Dwight Phelps, sister-in-law-Susan Eaton
The Turschman family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 3 pm to 5 pm in the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 West Walnut Street, Summitville. Military honors will close the visitation period. Cremation will follow with private interment of cremains in Vinson Memorial Cemetery, Summitville at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Van Buren Township Fire Department with envelopes available at the funeral home.
