SUMMITVILLE, IN – William "Butch" Lee Hendrix, 78, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories.
Born June 7, 1947, in
Anderson, Indiana, to James and Valencia Ondalee (Ryan) Hendrix, Butch grew up with a deep appreciation for family and the outdoors-two passions that shaped his entire life.
Butch's happiest days were spent outdoors, whether he was hunting in the quiet woods or fishing with Marcia on a peaceful lake. He found peace in nature and shared that love with his children and grandchildren, teaching them patience and the thrill of a good catch. Family gatherings often included his stories-some about the one that got away, others about adventures that grew taller with each telling.
Those who knew Butch will remember his easy smile, his ornery sense of humor, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. Butch's life was rich not because of what he owned, but because of the love he gave and received.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marcia Elaine Hendrix, who was his partner, fishing companion, and best friend. Together they built a home filled with warmth and laughter. He was a proud father to Lee (Belinda) Hendrix of Apopka, Florida, Rodney (Chris) Bailey of Summitville, Kathy (Doug) Dodane of Andrews, Patti Hendrix of Apopka, Forida, Robin Bailey of Summitville, and Karen Pierstorff of Fishers. His family grew to include 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. To his nieces, nephews, and extended family, Butch was more than an uncle-he was a mentor, a storyteller, and a steady presence.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Banter, and two grandsons.
Services honoring Butch's life will take place at 2 pm on Friday, December 5, 2025, in the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 West Walnut Street, Summitville with Pastor Tracy Phillips officiating. Cremation will follow the services. The Hendrix family will receive friends after 12 Noon on Friday in the funeral home prior to the service.
