SUMMITVILLE, IN – Charles Dennis "Charlie" Coats, 82, entered peace and rest on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from Summit Health and Living following an extended illness.
He was born in Geff, Illinois on March 1, 1943, to Charles August Coats and Wilma Esther (Turner) Coats and has resided in Summitville for most of his lifetime. Charlie was a registered respiratory therapist at Community Hospital of Anderson where he was also director of the Respiratory Department. He retired in 1983 after 20 years of employment. Charlie was a long-time member of the
Summitville First Baptist Church. During his time at the church, he served as a sound tech, church treasurer and a Sunday School teacher. For several years, Charlie has been a volunteer at the Summitville Hope Center. Charlie was a good will ambassador because he never met a stranger as he reached out and interacted with folks from his golf cart. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, NASCAR and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He was very interested in genealogy and Madison County History. Charlie's friendly personality and warm smile coupled with a little orneriness will be sadly missed, but warmly and fondly remembered.
