A memorial service honoring the life of Jerry Ronald Webb will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2024, at First Methodist Church.
Jerry Ronald Webb, loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather (known as Papa) went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2024, unexpectedly but peacefully. With his strong faith, he honored God in how he lived his life, and his family is comforted knowing he is in Heaven.
Jerry was the son of Burvin and Novalene Webb, born February 12, 1938, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Byrd High School in 1956. In 1960, he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Craig, and they shared 61 years of marriage until her passing in 2022. They were known affectionately as Papa and Honey, Jerry and Carolyn shared a special love for one another that was centered and grounded by the Lord, setting an exemplary standard for their family and those that knew them.
Driven by an insatiable work ethic rooted in him from a young age, Jerry was a relentless pursuer of his goals. His career began humbly, delivering newspapers as a boy, and blossomed into a lifelong passion for business. A stint in the furniture industry, sparked by a teenage job, laid the groundwork for his entrepreneurial spirit. While he built a successful career in furniture distribution and retail, his adventurous nature drew him to the exhilarating world of oil and gas. With a prospector's heart and a gambler's instinct, he thrived on the thrill of the deal and the promise of untapped potential. Even in his later years, his mind was sharp, his spirit undeterred, as he continued exploring new opportunities and dreaming of his next venture. While he had many successes, Jerry always said he was most proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. He led by example, encouraging the pursuit of something one loves, just as he had, so it never felt like work.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed skiing the slopes of Beaver Creek with family and friends. His adventures there were remembered, often recounted with infectious laughter. He treasured countless seasons of duck hunting alongside close friends, from the marshes of South Louisiana to the plains of Texas. A natural-born storyteller, Jerry captivated his friends and family with his wit and charm. His love for LSU was legendary and attending tailgates and games with his children and grandchildren was a shared love and cherished tradition. When not traveling, Jerry's intellectual curiosity remained insatiable. A voracious reader, he spent countless hours exploring new worlds and expanding his knowledge, a pursuit he continued up until his final days.
Jerry was a dedicated member of the East Ridge Country Club, the Shreveport Club, the Green Tree Syndicate Investment Club, as well as, The Seekers Sunday School class at First Methodist. He was surrounded by a loving circle of family and friends, including his ten grandchildren that he absolutely adored. His deep connections with those he loved brought him immense joy. Known for his infectious smile and unparalleled generosity, Jerry left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jerry is survived by his three children; Tami Webb Mulligan of Dallas, TX; Christopher Lee Webb and wife, Diana of Lake Forest, Illinois; Byrum Craig Webb and wife, Katherine of Shreveport, Louisiana and his grandchildren; Madison Mulligan Childress and husband Ford, Caroline, Webb and Crawford Mulligan, Brady, Will, and Summer Webb, Chandler, Holden, and Bunker Webb. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby Lynn Copeland, and preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Craig Webb, and sister, Francis Carolyn Fussell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Methodist Church: 500 Common Street, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101.
